NC Coalition for Charter Schools - Resource for Parents
Posted Date: 10/17/26 (09:00 AM)
Good morning Community School of Davidson,
Did you know that public policy debates affecting charter schools happen all the time in North Carolina? CSD is a proud member of the North Carolina Coalition for Charter Schools, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works on behalf of charter schools across the state. Specifically for our parent community, the Coalition has a Parent Newsletter, the CharterBeat, which is a monthly resource for news and information. You can register here, just make sure to include Community School of Davidson when you sign-up. It offers short, easy-to-read policy updates, along with facts, figures, and stories from charter communities statewide.
"Because of its structure, the Coalition is the only charter group with unlimited ability to lobby freely and promote the interests of public charter schools in the N.C. General Assembly, the N.C. State Board of Education, and the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. A member-led organization, the Coalition draws on the policy, legal, educational, and legislative expertise of its leadership and members to protect and promote the interests of N.C. public charter schools and the 150,000 students these schools serve."
I have experienced personally how instrumental the Coalition has been in keeping us actively informed of legislative issues, while constantly seeking the autonomy and flexibility charter schools were established to maintain through extremely important advocacy and lobbying efforts. I collaborate regularly with the Coalition and my charter leader counterparts for the betterment of all charter schools. Wednesday, I am attending the Coalition's fall regional meeting at Lincoln Charter School and will be attending the Coalition's Charter Advocacy Summit in March, an annual event in Raleigh.
I encourage our parents to sign up for the CharterBeat to say informed of important information as a key stakeholder in the charter school landscape.
Thank you for viewing, enjoy your weekend, and continue to be your best,
Craig S. Smith | Executive Director
