RIPPLE

RIPPLE

CSD’s Ripple Program is a K-5 remote and in-person learning expereince – below you’ll find academic and related information.

  • Two students writing at a picnic table.
  • RIPPLE program logo.
  • Three students presenting their work outside.

Program Description:

The CSD RIPPLE model includes a combination of remote and in-person instruction and learning opportunities. Students attend 2-half day in-person sessions with their teachers and classmates each week. Additionally, Fridays will be reserved for whole group get-togethers, field trips, extra individual and small group meetings, and more! The remaining time in students’ days will be made up of “asynchronous activities.” During their in-person time each week, students will be in small groups of about 12 students so that the teacher can focus lessons and activities to best suit the needs of each student.

Goals/Objectives of the Program:

For years, CSD leaders have dreamed of a way to serve a population of families who desire a top-notch CSD education but also want flexibility with the school week in addition to a parent role that is much more involved with the daily educational experiences for their children.  This program is ideal for families who are seeking a creative learning option but who also want to maximize family time and time spent learning outside of the classroom.  As is the case with the more traditional CSD model, this program requires a strong home/school partnership where parents will be intimately involved in executing the remote learning portion of the program.

As a means by which to share lessons on students' at-home days, we use Seesaw. We have found that Seesaw is very user-friendly for elementary students (and parents, too!).

Target Groups

On at-home days, students may be invited to participate in a virtual Target Group. These groups will be fluid, meeting regularly or as-needed, and are intended to meet individual needs, whether they be learning gaps or areas for enrichment.

Learning Kits

Learning Kits are distributed to students at the start of each trimester. These kits are curated by RIPPLE teachers to supplement at-home learning and will include books, supplies, and any necessary hard copies to go along with assigned activities.

Meet in the Middle

With the help of our wonderful parent volunteers, we offer some awesome elective opportunities for our students in the middle of the day, between the morning sessions and the afternoon sessions.

Fridays

Fridays will be a combination of make up days, remote days, field trips, special events at Spartan Park, Nature Nuggets in Davidson, and Bonus In-Person days.

If a normal school day is missed because of a holiday or teacher workday, we will use the Friday of that week to reclaim that time. We will call these days make up days.

The special events we have planned for this year include the Sandwich Swap in November, Parade of Fiction/Trunk-or-Treat in October, the Valentine Celebration in February, and the Art Crawl & Authors Tea in May.

Nature Nuggets

The wonderful Ms. Jackie at our Lower School campus in Davidson has created the most wonderful nature classroom with so many creatures to explore. On Nature Nuggets days, students get to visit our Davidson Lower School campus, and spend some time with Ms. Jackie learning about all wonderful animals and the science of living things! Additionally, our RIPPLE classes buddy up with a Davidson campus class!
