Board Approved 2027-2028 Academic Calendar
Good morning Community School of Davidson,
The 2027-2028 Academic Calendar was presented and successfully approved at last night’s Board Meeting. The calendar is attached to this communication. It was important to have our 2027-2028 Calendar approved far in advance so appropriate plans can be made by our families and staff.
We will continue to have the first day of school on a Wednesday, August 18th. Daily attendance at the beginning of the year establishes good routines and provides the best opportunity to set up students for a successful school year. If a student fails to attend during the first days of school without appropriate notice/communication, CSD reserves the right to treat the absence as a withdrawal and will immediately offer the open slot to the next student on the respective waiting list. The last day of school will be May 26th, which means our End-of-Year Testing will begin May 15th. Please avoid scheduling any and all conflicts that would impact attendance during that testing time-period, as well.
We will again utilize the inclusion of a "Weather Make-Up/FLEX day" in April. This day will be treated as a traditional instructional school day in case we need a weather make-up due to inclement weather during the year. Knowing we have a day "to be reserved for weather make-up" will be an additional factor when taking everything into account for potential weather-related decisions, which are always challenging. If we happen to get through the fall and winter with no weather-impacted days, then the day remains open to "FLEX" as either a Teacher Workday, Professional Development, Intervention/Academic Student Support, etc.; I would be required to present that change for Board approval in ‘27-28. For all planning purposes, consider April 17th a traditional school day.
