8th Grade Semi-Formal

Posted Date: 03/23/26 (09:48 AM)

8th Grade Parents,

The 8th grade semi-formal dinner and dance is quickly approaching. It's hard to believe that these kids will soon be High Schoolers!  Please see all of the information below regarding the event!  There will be a separate email sent regarding volunteer opportunities for donations, help with set up and clean up. In the meantime, please click the link to purchase the ticket for your child!  It's going to be a night they won't forget for a "Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Thursday, April 23 is a half-day for students (11:30-12:00 pickup). You can pick up like normal.

Students attending the dinner and dance should be dropped off in a carpool fashion (no stopping to take pictures) at the front entrance of the school at 6:30. Dinner will be served from 6:30-7:15.

The dance ends at 9:00 pm. Please plan to pick up promptly at that time. Parents can wait at the front doors of the HS. If you are available to stay for clean up, we would greatly appreciate the help - please be on the lookout for the sign up genius.

Dinner will be a Pasta & Salad Bar in the Main Commons which is covered by the ticket cost. We are also accepting donations to cover teacher meals - tickets/ dinner payment link is below!

Tickets must be purchased by Friday April 17th.

Drop off and pick up:

All students will need to be dropped off at the high school by a parent or pre-arranged ride. No limos or party buses are allowed. The dance will end promptly at 9:00. Parents should park outside the high school front entrance. We will dismiss the kids to meet you at 9:00.

Other important information:

The 8th grade dance is only open to 8th grade students. No guests from other grade levels or from other schools may attend. In addition, we want to be careful about giving our MS students that the adults expect them to have a "Date" for this dance. This age group, although interested in exploring relationships, is still learning about friendships. We realize and understand that middle school students are at different developmental states with their interest in romantic relationships but want to support them as they navigate without perceived pressures from friends, parents, and other adults that they "should" have a date. 8th grade parents, please let your child know that 8th graders are attending the dance as friends and plan to dance with many people rather than having a "date" for the night. They have plenty of time to explore dating down the road. Let's focus on friendship for now!

Middle School staff members and administration will serve as chaperones for the dance. No parents needed for that part!

Dress code:

The attire for the dance is classy dressy. The school dress code policy is as follows:

"Students should attend school in proper attire and shoes. Please use your good judgement and consider whether your clothing choices meet the standards and values set by your own families."

We will review this information with students at school, but please also have these conversations at home:

  • Public displays of affection, such as kissing are private, and therefore not permitted on school property.

  • We will have desserts and water and a lemonade bar inside the dance following dinner.

  • Walking around the school is not permitted.

  • Students may have their cell phones at the dance but if a phone from school must be used, students must see a staff member chaperoning the dance.

  • All other school rules apply.
