Board Approved Amendments to 2026-2027 Academic Calendar
Posted Date: 03/11/26 (08:00 AM)
Good morning Community School of Davidson,
At last night's Board of Directors Meeting, amendments to the 2026-2027 Academic Calendar were presented for approval. We wanted to share this with you all immediately.
The first amendment is in September. September 21st and 22nd have been "flipped", but this does not impact non-staff; there is no school either day.
The second amendment is the following week in October. There is no legitimate holiday on October 1st. This day has been converted to a traditional school day. The Teacher Workday on October 2nd remains.
This October 1st conversion actually affords us the ability, if faced with inclement weather again in 2026-2027, to have two days built into the current calendar that would not require us to implement remote learning if we are unable to be on-campus. If you can recall, NC law allows public charter schools to use up to five (5) remote learning days per academic year to replace in-person instruction due to weather or emergencies.
The April 30th "FLEX" day remains unchanged, as well. If we happen to get through the fall and winter with no weather-impacted days, then the day remains open to "FLEX" as either a Teacher Workday, Professional Development, Intervention/Academic Student Support, etc.; I would be required to present that adjustment for Board approval in '26-27. For all planning purposes, consider April 30th a traditional school day.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. The CSD Website will have the calendar posted soon, as well.
Thank you for your trust and support; continue to be your best,
Craig S. Smith
