|What are the summer volunteer opportunities?
CSDHS summer service trips focus on giving students intensive experiential learning opportunities outside the traditional school day structure. Teams travel to:
1. Costa Rica for a 10-day home stay and camping adventure with our hosts in the Central Valley;
2. Washington DC for a 6-day trip to work with local soup kitchens and service organizations;
3. North Carolina's Mountains to Sea Trail for a 5-day trailbuilding and camping trip.
Each trip immerses students in service, challenging surroundings, and new languages or skills.
What will I do?
While every trip centers on some aspect of service, the organizing theme of each trip differs. Traveling students may choose from projects that focus on the environment, sustainability, and social justice issues. In addition, every trip includes excursions that allow students to gain a sense of place and develop their skills as travelers.
How do I sign up?
Each Fall, CSD administrators and trip coordinators host a travel meeting for interested travelers and their families. This meeting provides the broad outlines of the trip plans for the coming summer. Travel deposits of $250 are due to the front desk between December 1 and the last day of school before Winter Break. Click here for the travel interest form that should accompany your deposit check. Deposits become non-refundable after January 15.
